Roger Mayweather, who was world champion in two weight classes and later trained his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr., has died.
Nicknamed Black Mamba, Roger Mayweather won the WBA super featherweight title by stopping Samuel Serrano in the eighth round of their January 1983 fight in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He successfully defended that title twice. He ended his career with a record of 39-13-0 with 35 of those wins by Knock out. After retirement Roger served as Mayweather Jr.'s trainer from 2000 to 2012. Under Roger's guidance Floyd Mayweather Jr then went onto become one of the biggest names in the sport of boxing and one of the pound for pound greats. One of his most memorable quotes and is often used in online boxing groups is "Most people don't know Sh*t about boxing" He was a master in teaching the sweet science of boxing.
Roger Mayweather’s death occurred just a week after Josie Harris, the mother of three of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s children, died at the age of 40 outside of her home in Valencia, California.
